Lots Lot of Chairs...

The Lots named after the first lot of chairs I bought at auction for a creative side project. I worked on them a while ago and realised I'd never actually posted up the finished photographs so take a look at my handy work.

These where the first four so I kinda threw everything at them, stripping them down to the bone with sand paper and caustic soda. I did a lot of painting and re-sanding and painting and re-sanding. The re-upholsting came pretty easy I'd done a lot of canvas stretching throughout uni its a pretty similar technique, pulling & pinning. Then several layers of paint and a top coat. YAY. Done.

The tragedy of a spoon...

Oh Spoon of Soup you slip on down,
stroking the ceramic sides of life.
Be it in colour or black and white I ask
For it is not the vibrancy of the bowl
but the symbolic suicide of a spoon.

I went cycling and saw some boats...

I jumped on my bike and Bro Joe on his and we poodled up to Shoreham ( I say poodle, what I mean is die in head on winds along the coast with my single speed bike) and we looked at some mother frickin boats y'all! they where sweet. Here's some photosnaps of what I found, bit of a surprise half way...

Crack Boat!!!
Why does it have no windows?
growing weed? hiding immigrants?
I'm gonna go with government surveillance spies eating pies.

Concrete boat how do you float.

Boat chicken.

Yeah man. Battle house ship.

Piano chime was dope.

AND THEN WE FOUND THEM.

Crazy ass art boats!
made from everything and anything.

The tear drop windows are just ridiculous, You cant really see from the photo but there's basically a conservatory behind there. Its made with a bus too, you know what ever's lying around. Heart windows and a washing machine too.

Its got a bath tub window and a car wall! whaaat!
Ah I think I need a lie down.

Don't you know Dunkno Yoon?...

Duk-no Yoon is this crazy cool metalsmith jewelery kinetic miniature sculpting artist! He creates elegantly fragile moving pieces which are intricately balanced and perfectly poised.

Making several different metal based objects from costume helmets to rings made with cogs by far the best are these equisite flying contraptions.

BRGHTN PT 2 Ink_d n' Doig...

Ink_d is a tincy wincy little gallery up in the north lanes, but don't be fooled by the size, it's a beaut, I always try to make time to pay it a visit. Its a host to many talented contemporary artists young and old with work running from paintings illustration and prints to ceramics and sculpture, with a neat print studio nestled in the basement for artists and workshops. And they got a pretty sweet staircase and upstairs showroom.

On with the show!

Andy Doig the current exhibitor in Ink_d has created a space filled with neon light and memories. Resurrecting old English fairground bulbs Doig has crafted them into a stack of crosses, a bounty of colourful stars which dot the floor and scatter across the ceiling and the slogan "Kiss me quick squeeze me slowly" all of which emit a warm haze, ethereal hum and a glowing heat.

The falling light transports the viewer back to an earlier stage in life and recalls the lure of the fun fair, with its captivating coloures and shrieks and squeals of excitement.

BRGHTN PT 1 Gzdzzzzdzz gzzuh ghzzz...

Brighton Brighton Brighton. I will inhabit you permanently one day. For now I get to take the most excellent trips down to you for a few days and take full advantage of the bredwins hospitality. Lets get started on this three part bonanza.

Joe McElroy! a wonderful artist friend of mine was to be zapped into oblivion by the rather superb tattooist Lionel Fahy from the french land, who was guest spotting at The Tattoo Workshop. Monsieur Fahy's work is just beautiful and nothing much like I've seen anywhere before.

His hand draws stunning lines often depicting warped dream like scenes which could have been plucked straight from the darker imagination of a child. They can be fun, colourful and delicately beautiful but sometimes tinged with a more sinister tone. A truly unique style of illustrative technique applied with ink to skin.

Joe's tattoo! meet Wilson. Hallo!

Dead animals & Polly Morgan...

I have long been a fan of this highly talented taxidermy artist. Her work embodies the strength of death, the fragility of life and the delicacy of movement.

Morgan's love of animals led her to taxidermys preserving nature and her artistic voice grew from a want to step away from the stilted and conservative association of main stream taxidermy.

Morgan places the animals in foreign environments encouraging the viewer to cast a fresh gaze on the animal, a lot of which have negative reputations of being vermin and pests, "A rat sheds its association with horror and disease and can be viewed as a beautiful animal."

Polly Morgan also has a shop, you can buy an original artwork alongside etchings, mugs and prints.

Triumphant triangles...

Tantalizing triplets shape this month. Put you're protractor away and look at these with a new angle.  Gorgeous geometric patterns have already been strongly featured in some recent past posts, so to get this kaleidoscopic obsession from my mind here's a grand selection of some great triangles in Art & Design.
